Building Trust by Setting Standards

Strict Zakat Policy

  1. Zakat Funds are restricted solely to eligible recipients

  2. Zakat is never used for fundraising, marketing, caseworker and other salaries, events etc.

  3. Administrative costs are funded by separate sadaqah donations

  4. All zakat recipients must meet eligibility criteria: Muslim living in Fresno Area, valid ID, documentation to prove need, and (if repeat applicant) effort to become self-sufficient

Separate Zakat Accounting

  • USEF maintains a separate zakat bank account through Bank of America

  • All transactions in and out of the account are recorded and kept in a separate ledger

  • An Annual Ramadan Zakat Report is made and shared every Ramadan detailing how much Zakat entered the account, how much left the account, how many families were served, and funds in account on Dec 31st of previous year

Local Distribution and Transparency

  • Unlike many national and international charities, USEF raises zakat funds locally and distributes them only locally

  • Ramadan Zakat Report which is shared with community members above on website, on social media and emailed to past donors

  • Trusted representatives from masjids mentioned above have direct access to all applications, documentation, and transaction ledgers to ensure complete accountability
